A Perfect Day - Sportlann Ui Mhurchu Opens in Sunshine.

Rare sunshine, a bumper crowd and two wins were but mere bonuses in a milestone day for Cumann Luthchleas Gael, Creatlach on Sunday last as the Sportlann Mhichil uí Mhurchu was officially opened.

The endeavour of the Sportshall Commitee aswell as the genorosity of Cratloe's parishioners over the past eight years since the then Minister for Sport Jim McDaid first muted the idea of the complex following the tragic death of club hurler Michael Murphy was lauded infront of a huge attendance making most of the summery conditions.

A moving Mass in St Johns Church, celebrated by Fr. Liam Enright, Parish Priest and Club Patron spoke of Michaels legacy to his home parish and welcomed visiting members of the Dicksboro GAA Club from Kilkenny. Afterward Players from U10 and U12 squads put their talent on show in a morning blitz of both codes.

Players from Cratloe and Dicksboro paraded O Hehir Park before John Ryan, Sportlann Commitee Chairman welcomed everybody's input and opened the floor to Mr. McDaid who paid a glowing tribute to the hardwork of the club not least John himself and Michael's family. Mike O Neill Hon. Sec of the Clare County Board continued with the same sentiment and spoke of the ties developed between his own Ballyea and Cratloe since that fateful day in 2001, Pat Fitzgerald representing the Munster council outlined the importance of the volunteerism and behind the work scenes that bring about such dreams adding that such work is the true face of the GAA and not the big days in Croke Park.

Madeline Taylor Quinn, Mayor of County Clare, was humbled by the community spirit shown by Cratlonians throughout the project before presentations were made to Commitee members, amonst them a gift from the Dicksboro club who played their part in two games at both Senior and Junior level which followed soonafter.

The evening was brought to a close with Cratloe winning both fixtures and a barbeque in Setrights. Commemoration booklets are available at Aislings Shop for 5 Euro.
Well done to all involved!
