Cratloe Camogie Club ~ Conway Cup Champions.
The 1960's will also long be remembered for another breakthrough in the Club. In 1960 Mrs. Patsy Nugent (nee O Brien) founded Cratloe Camogie Club. Patsy who played for Clare in 62' and 63' got involved with the cumann through her place of work S.P.S and with her enthusiasm and drive had set up a strong camogie club with herself acting as both team captain and chairperson. Fr. Halpin R.I.P and then P.P, readily agreed to be President of the club and saw it last as a separate entity for the most of the 1960's peaking in 1963 when Cratloe lifted the inaugural Conway Cup at Dr. Daly Park in Tulla. The following year the women of Cratloe were unlucky not to retain the title when they were beaten in a downpour by rivals Sixmilebridge.
A few years later both sets of players were to meet again however this time as a dual force when they amalgamated with an evenly spread team of six and six and won back the Conway Cup in 1967. Unfortunately as time went on this amalgamation proved disadvantageous to Cratloe, leading to the demise of the Club, while Sixmilebridge prospered. Hopefully the tables can be again turned in the not too distant future with both the rising population and current facilities in Cratloe.
